We wanted to explain this before WordCamp, but no one had the time to write something up. This may be a few weeks overdue, but we thought you still might want to know why we chose cows as our theme.
The answer is: Cowford.
Of course, that answer means nothing to many of you, so let’s dig deeper. Sometime between 1763 and 1783, when Florida was controlled by Great Britain, they renamed this area Cowford, because it was a place the cattle could ford the St. Johns river. That name stuck until it became incorporated as Jacksonville in 1822.
